Home Dog Euthanasia

Putting your dog to sleep can be one of the hardest decisions that you ever have to make. They are beautiful animals who become your family member and share all of the happiest and saddest moments in your life. Sadly, our pets live for only a fraction of our lifetime and there comes the moment when we have to say goodbye. Your beloved dog can get seriously ill or injured as well as grow old. It is indeed heartbreaking to see, however, if your companion is fading away day by day and there is no way to stop this process, it might be time to consider euthanasia.

What is pet euthanasia?

Euthanasia is defined as the procedure of giving an injection with a medical drug to allow your pet to die. Only a licensed veterinarian should perform it. While making the final decision to let your dog go, you must decide where you are going to euthanize your pet. There are two options: at home or a vet clinic. Having the procedure at home offers comfortable, familiar surroundings, instead of the stressful environment that animals can feel in a vet clinic. Your pet may also be so sick that you are unable to transport them to a clinic.

In-home euthanasia is becoming more and more popular with dog owners. One of the main reasons for this is the desire to make their beloved dog’s last moments as comfortable as possible. It’s safe to say that most dogs don’t like going to the vet’s office. For dogs with limited mobility, it can be unbearably stressful or painful to be moved at all. With that in mind, your furry friend will feel more comfortable and calm when they are at home surrounded by the people who love them.

Saying goodbye to your family member is very difficult emotionally. Some dog owners prefer to have their dog euthanized at home because each family member can take a moment to say goodbye and be free with their emotions.

The procedure of euthanizing a dog at home is the same as the vet hospital. The main difference is the location. At home, a dog can be lying in their bed or near their favourite tree in the backyard. In their final moments, it is important that your dog feels comfortable. It is up to you whether you can watch the procedure or wait until it is over to say goodbye. You will be given as much time as you want before and after the final injection to say your farewell.
